We may live on different shores, speak with different accents and carry different passports, but our stories intersect in more ways than we sometimes recognize.

Welcome to The Diaspora.

This section of Soulfood & Lemonade is dedicated to conversations connecting Africa, Jamaica, the Caribbean, African Americans, Caribbean Americans and Black communities throughout the world.

Our differences matter.

But so do our connections.

Culture.

Music.

Food.

Family.

Migration.

History.

Faith.

Entrepreneurship.

Politics.

Identity.

And the continuing search for opportunity and belonging.

We want to explore what happens when these worlds meet.

What can Jamaicans learn from African Americans?

What can African Americans learn from the Caribbean?

What economic opportunities could develop through greater cooperation across the diaspora?

How do first-generation immigrants experience America differently from their children?

What misconceptions do Black communities sometimes hold about one another?

And what could happen if we spent less time emphasizing our divisions and more time understanding one another?

Beyond Geography

The diaspora is not merely a geographic description.

It is a human story.

It is the story of people carrying culture across oceans.

Families adapting to new countries while trying to preserve traditions.

Young people navigating multiple identities.

Entrepreneurs creating connections between continents.

Artists turning heritage into music, film, fashion and literature.

There are difficult chapters in our shared history.

But there are also extraordinary stories of survival, creativity and achievement.

Soulfood & Lemonade wants to explore all of them.

Different shores. Different experiences. Connected stories.
